Somerville 2018-19 School Year Preview
Here's what you need to know about the upcoming school year in Somerville.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The start of school, believe it or not, is just around the corner. The first day of school for non-kindergartners is a half day on Wednesday, Aug. 29. The district's littlest students return to school Sept. 4. You can see more important school dates on the Somerville school calendar here.
According to state records, enrollment across the Somerville Public Schools during the 2017-18 school year was 4,868 students. Somerville has 10 schools (grades in parenthesis):
- Somerville High Schools (9-12)
- East Somerville Community School (K-8)
- John F. Kennedy School (K-8)
- West Somerville Community School (PK-8)
- Winter Hill Community Innovation School (PK-8)
- Arthur D. Healey School (PK-8)
- Albert F. Argenziano School (PK-8)
- Next Wave/Full Circle Schools (6-12)
- Benjamin G. Brown School (K-5)
- Capuano Early Childhood Center (PK-K)
The Somerville High School Building Project officially began this year, with demolition of the East 1929 classroom wing starting in June. The wing was vacated in April, and students were moved to modular classrooms.
