Somerville To Begin Demolition Of HS, Break Ground This Month
Somerville will hold a groundbreaking ceremony next week to mark the project milestone.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The city is set to begin tearing down parts of Somerville High School this month. Demolition of the "C" wing of the school is set to begin June 22, according to officials. Ahead of that, Somerville will hold a groundbreaking ceremony in front of the high school on Tuesday, June 12 at 9 a.m.
Speakers and attendees will include:
- Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone
- Superintendent of Schools Mary Skipper
- The Somerville School Committee
- The Somerville Board of Aldermen
- Somerville’s State Delegation
- Deborah Goldberg, Treasurer of Massachusetts
- Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of the Mass. School Building Authority
- The Somerville High School Building Committee
- City of Somerville Capital Projects and Planning Division
- Somerville High School leadership, staff & students
- Suffolk Construction
- SMMA
- PMA Consultants
Construction of a new Somerville High School is expected to be completed in fall of 2021.
