Somerville Boozy Taco Bell Hits Snag

Ward 6 Alderman Lance Davis said in an email that the proposal has been tabled.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Plans to bring a boozy Taco Bell to Somerville have hit a road block, perhaps indefinitely.

Taco Bell Cantina, a concept from Taco Bell that serves alcohol-mixed Twisty Freezes and tap beers, was reportedly eyeing Davis Square as its next market. So much so, in fact, that city officials had scheduled a neighborhood meeting this month about the prospect of bringing one to the former iYo Cafe space at 234 Elm Street.

That meeting has been canceled, Ward 6 Alderman Lance Davis said in an email Thursday. Davis said the proposal has been tabled for at least the immediate future and possibly for good.

From the start, the Taco Bell Cantina plans appeared nebulous – a rep for Taco Bell's parent company told Eater last month there isn't "anything concrete" about the project.

Patch will keep you updated if the status of the proposal changes.
