Somerville Fire Displaces 6, Injures 2 Firefighters

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries at a house fire on Essex Street Monday.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Six Somerville residents were displaced by a fire on Essex Street Monday afternoon, the Somerville Fire Department said. The fire began on the third floor rear porch of 8-10 Essex Street at 1:10 p.m.

Flames spread to the roof and the rear of the third floor apartment and caused water damage to the first and second floors. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries while extinguishing the blaze.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Charles Breen, the fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damage and displaced five adults and one child.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to be accidental.
