Somerville Mayor Says He'll Drink Sam Adams If Geoff Diehl Wins
Joseph Curtatone, who famously swore off Sam Adams, is proposing an ale-infused challenge to Sen. Elizabeth Warren's challenger.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone famously declared earlier this year he would no longer drink Sam Adams beer after the company's founder met with President Trump. But a victory for Sen. Elizabeth Warren's challenger could force him to renege on that vow.
Curtatone on Monday proposed a challenge to Senate hopeful Geoff Diehl: if Diehl wins, Curtatone will film himself drinking a Sam Adams beer and congratulating him on the win, but if Warren wins, Diehl has to post a video of himself drinking a Somerville Brewing Company beer and praising sanctuary cities.
The Diehl campaign turned down the bet, arguing Curtatone did not hold his end of a previous bargain, and promised to send him a case of Sam Adams in November.

Open challenge to @DiehlForSenate, if you win in Nov I'll post a video of me drinking a Sam Adams & congratulating you on your win. If you lose, you post one of you drinking @Slumbrew & praising #SanctuaryCities #mapoli #masen2018

Coward's response. If you actually think you're going to win, take the bet. It's your chance to own a lib. We've never wagered on anything before this. At least I'm offering you the chance to drink a tasty beer. #mapoli #masen2018 https://t.co/LBwycBd3ba

In August, Curtatone tweeted that he would "never drink Sam Adams beer again" after founder Jim Koch dined with Trump at the president's golf resort in Bedminster, NJ and praised the federal tax code rewrite for giving him a "level playing field" with foreign brewing companies.
"We need to hold these complicit profiteers of Trump's white nationalist agenda accountable!" Curtatone, a Democrat and outspoken Trump critic, tweeted at the time.
