Somerville Municipal Election 2017 Guide
Everything you need to know about the upcoming election Nov. 7.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville will hold its municipal elections this coming Tuesday, Nov. 7. This year several incumbents, most notably Mayor Joseph Curtatone, face challengers. Four ward aldermen and two school committee races are contested, and four aldermen-at-large will be voted into new terms.
A preliminary election was held Sept. 19 to vote on which mayoral candidates and candidates for school committee in Ward 1 would partake in the general election.
An already blue city, Somerville saw several progressive candidates emerge this year in the vein of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders. Local activist group Our Revolution hosted Sanders last month to stump for many of the progressive candidates in Somerville and neighboring Cambridge.

Mayoral candidate Payton Corbett, who was endorsed by Our Revolution before old social media posts cost him the group's support, centered his campaign around the rights of the working class and the rising cost of living in Somerville.
