Somerville Receives $400K For Prospect Hill Park Project

The state this month awarded over $6 million to 22 communities. Here's what Somerville's doing with its funding.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Gov. Charlie Baker's administration this month announced over $6 million in funding for park and recreation improvements in 22 Massachusetts communities. Somerville received $400,000, administered through the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) grant program, to support improvements to Prospect Hill Park.

The project includes new pathways for people with disabilities; new trees, grass and plantings; pruning of older trees; irrigation and stormwater catches to reduce flooding; improvements to fencing and railings; and new site furnishings, according to environmental officials.

The grants are funded by the capital budget and will be used to help communities acquire nearly 30 acres of land and develop or renovate other land for outdoor recreation use.
