Somerville Redevelopment Authority To Add 2 More

The city received Gov. Charlie Baker's approval this month to beef up the Redevelopment Authority.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The Somerville Redevelopment Authority just got a little bigger. Gov. Charlie Baker this approved Rep. Christine Barber's bill to add two new members to the authority.

One of the members will be a city council member appointed by the council president, who will serve concurrently with the president's term, and the other will be appointed by the mayor and subject to city council approval.

The mayor's appointee will serve a term of five years.

The Redevelopment Authority is responsible for implementing the city's urban renewal plans, such as revitalizing Assembly Square and Union Square.

Gov. Baker signed the bill into law Jan. 2.
