Somerville Residents, Watch Out for IRS Scams!
It's tax season, and local police are reporting numerous calls about IRS phone scams.
SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville police are warning residents about an IRS phone scam the department has received numerous reports of in recent days.
The calls say there is a "lawsuit filed against you" and leaves a message for a return phone number – Somerville police say you should not call this number. Do not answer unknown calls, as these might be robocalls, and do not speak or touch any buttons during the call, which may enable future calls.
Residents are also asked to report any incidents to the IRS at this link. Unsolicited email claiming to be from the IRS or about an IRS-related subject may be reported to phishing@irs.gov.

If you lose money due to an IRS-related incident, report it to the Treasury Inspector General Administration here. A complaint may also be filed with the FTC to make the information available to investigators.
