Somerville's Eat at Jumbo's Wins Local Pizza Battle

, a pizza restaurant in Ball Square, defeated competition from Cambridge and Braintree last week at "The Pizza Royal Rumble," held at Somerville's Parlor Sports.

The pizza battle took place June 26 as part of Parlor Sports' "Tuesday Night Fight" series, described by Parlor Sports, via Eventbrite, as "a monthly head-to-head culinary competition to see who can master the art of everyone’s favorite sporting snacks: Stadium Food."

The June 26 pizza battle pitted Jumbo's against some local favorites: All Star Pizza Bar, from Inman Square in Cambridge; Emma's Pizza, near Kendall Square in Cambridge; and Easy Pie from Braintree.

Patrons paid $15 to attend the sold-out event, tasting all the pizzas and using the ballots to vote for the winner.

Grover Taylor, owner of Eat at Jumbo's, said he was pleasantly surprised, given the caliber of the competition, when the results came back and Eat at Jumbo's was voted the winner by a landslide.
