Somerville School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Early Release Days

SOMERVILLE, MA – Record scratch, school can't be right around the corner, can it? It's still a ways away, but these things have a knack for sneaking up on you during the dog days of summer. The first day of school for grades 1-12 is a half day Aug. 30.

The 2017-18 school calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here's a list of dates to know for the fall semester:

• Aug. 28: First day for staff, professional development
• Aug. 29: Staff professional development
• Aug. 30: First day of school, 1-12 (half day)
• Sept. 1: No school, offices open
• Sept. 4: No school, Labor Day
• Sept. 5: First day of school, K and Pre-K
• Sept. 13: 11:30 dismissal Pre-K, noon dismissal K-8
• Oct. 4: 11:30 dismissal Pre-K, noon dismissal K-8
• Oct. 9: No school, Columbus Day
• Oct. 18: 11:30 dismissal Pre-K, noon dismissal K-8
• Nov. 7: No school, Election Day and professional development
• Nov. 10: No school, Veterans Day
• Nov. 22-24: Thanksgiving Recess, begins at noon Nov. 22
• Dec. 6: 11:30 dismissal Pre-K, noon dismissal K-8
• Dec. 25-29: Winter Break
