Somerville Schools Closed For Rest of Week

Worries about roofs caving in forced officials to cancel classes.

The following information comes from the City of Somerville:

We have been working on plans to safely re-open the Somerville Public Schools and City buildings as cleanup efforts continue from a historic amount of snowfall. City Hall, Inspectional Services Division (ISD), Department of Public Works (DPW) have been cleared and inspected and are open to residents. Traffic and Parking is open until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, 2/11.

Right now it is not safe to have students, residents, and staff, in our schools and without the roofs being cleared, and we cannot clear the roofs while these buildings are open are open. For this reason, schools will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.

Roof experts are assessing the situation today, and the City has already secured contractors to begin clearing as soon as possible. We are working at maximum speed to have the roofs cleared safely.

We recognize that having schools closed for the week has created difficulties for our residents and families. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and assure you that we will continue to work diligently to ensure that our schools can reopen safely.
