Somerville Trader Joe's Gets Opening Date
The chain's first Somerville location will open in Assembly Square.
SOMERVILLE, MA – A year after the first rumblings of a Trader Joe's coming to Somerville, the grocery chain has officially announced an opening date for its Assembly Square store. Trader Joe's is slated to open Friday, August 4 at 8 a.m., according to the company's website.
The store's listed address is 145 Middlesex Avenue. Trader Joe's at Assembly Square Marketplace was first announced last summer, taking over the Sports Authority and a portion of the AC Moore space. Trader Joe's is the culmination of a multi-year endeavor to bring a grocery store to Assembly Square. According to Boston.com, developers sought to build a supermarket at Assembly in 2012 and 2013. The site ultimately became the location of the Partners HealthCare office facility.
