Somerville Woman 'Scooted' 1,000 Feet On NH Trail After Hiking Injury

Kyleigh Burns​ was hiking up Edmands Path in Sargent's Purchase when she suffered a lower leg injury and became unable to bear any weight.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A 25-year-old Somerville woman was rescued from a hiking path in New Hampshire after slipping and falling Sunday afternoon, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Kyleigh Burns was hiking up Edmands Path in Sargent's Purchase when she suffered the lower leg injury and became unable to bear any weight, officials said.

While waiting for rescuers, Burns, with the help of her hiking companions, scooted herself down the trail approximately 1000 feet, according to officials.

Along with conservation officers, 22 volunteers from Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue and Pemigewassett Valley Search and Rescue hiked up Edmands Path, placed Burns into a rescue litter, and carried her down the trail to the parking lot.

Burns declined an ambulance, choosing instead to seek medical treatment by having her hiking companions drive her to a medical facility.
