Somerville's Future Architects?

Somerville, MA, March 10, 2015 – Most people think of “vocational school” as a place where students learn to become cooks, auto mechanics or perhaps get an introduction to a health-related career.

Somerville High School does offer all of those programs, and many more, but it has one that is lesser known: “Architectural Design/Pre-engineering.”

“We have a very unique opportunity where you get to actually get to choose from many different career opportunities,” teacher Dan Bendel explained.

Senior Rafael Lima likes the classes.

“It prepares you for the real world,” he said. “I prefer that, rather than academics.”

The program has many classes and its students have gone on to successful careers as well as prestigious universities and colleges.
