Steve Wynn Removed From MA Gaming License
Wynn Resorts had petitioned to drop its namesake as a "qualifier" for the license.

EVERETT, MA – Wynn Resorts will continue to hold its Massachusetts casino license without Steve Wynn. Gaming officials on Monday decided to approve the company's request to remove its namesake as a "qualifier" for the license.
The gaming commission heard Wynn's case at a public hearing in late April. The company argued that Wynn should be dropped from the license after he resigned as chairman and CEO and sold his shares amid allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied.
"The evidence presented during the hearing and later considered by the five commissioners noted Mr. Wynn’s resignation as chair of the board of directors and as chief executive officer of Wynn Resorts, Ltd. on February 6, 2018," the commission wrote in its decision. "Also, Wynn Resorts and Mr. Wynn executed a separation agreement outlining the terms of disassociation on February 15, 2018. The evidence also demonstrated that Mr. Wynn, who previously owned approximately 12 percent stock in the company, took the necessary steps to divest and is now listed at zero shares."

Wynn Resorts has taken additional steps to distance itself from its founder, including changing the name of its Everett resort and casino to Encore Boston Harbor. The company faces a separate investigation by the gaming commission into its handling of the accusations against Steve Wynn.
