Unarmed Robbery Reported Near Tufts

A grad student told police he was approached by a male who reached into his pocket and stole his iPhone.

A Tufts grad student told campus police he was the victim of an unarmed robbery Thursday night in Somerville.

The student said he was walking on Oak Street at about 7:30 p.m. when he was approached by a male who asked him for the time. The student checked his phone, told the male the time, and put the phone back in his front pocket.

After the student took a few steps, the suspect allegedly reached into the student's pocket and grabbed the iPhone. He fled down Washington Street with the phone after a short struggle, the student told police.

The student was not injured.

Tufts and Boston Police searched the area but could not find the suspect. He is described as a black male, 6 foot 3 inches, and thin with no facial hair. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneaker, and may have been wearing a red shirt.

Tufts University and Boston Police Departments searched the area but could not find the suspect.

The suspect was described by the victim as a black male, 6 feet, 3 inches tall with a thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneakers with no facial hair and may have been wearing a red shirt under the sweatshirt.
