Somerville Public Meetings Ahead: Zoning, Henry Hansen Park, GLX

Three key public forums are on the horizon as of March 22.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The city of Somerville has three public meetings in the coming weeks pertaining to key issues for residents. The first, scheduled for March 26, will discuss the redesign of Henry Hansen Park at the corner of Medford Street and Partridge Avenue. Next up is the latest Green Line Extension meeting, which Mother Nature really doesn't seem to want to happen.

Rounding out the bunch is the rescheduled meeting on the hot-topic zoning overhaul. See below for details on each upcoming forum, via the city of Somerville:

Please join Somerville Commissioner of Veterans’ Services Bryan Bishop and project lead DJ Chagnon from CBA Landscape Architects on Monday, March 26, to discuss the redesign of Henry Hansen Park. The community meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the third floor conference room of the Visiting Nurse Association, 259 Lowell Street. Henry Hansen Park, located at the corner of Medford St. and Partridge Ave., honors Sergeant Henry O. “Hank” Hansen, a Magoun Square resident killed in action just one week after participating in the first flag-raising on Iwo Jima’s Mount Suribachi. The current Park features a garden, benches, a granite memorial tablet and a sculpture “tree” bearing information about World War II.

Green Line Extension Project to Host Rescheduled Public Meeting March 28

The meeting previously rescheduled from March 7 to March 21 is now rescheduled to March 28 due to upcoming severe weather. At the rescheduled March 28 public meeting, the Green Line Extension (GLX) project team will provide an outlook on construction activities planned in the coming months.

Public Hearing on Proposed Zoning Overhaul Rescheduled for April 3

Members of the public are invited to attend a public hearing by the Somerville Planning Board and the Board of Aldermen’s Land Use Committee on Tuesday, April 3, at 6 p.m., to provide feedback. The hearing will be held in the Aldermanic Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 93 Highland Ave. Feedback can also be submitted online at www.somervillezoning.com, where detailed information on the overhaul, timeline, and upcoming meetings and events are also available.
