Winner: Best Grocery or Convenience Store

: On busy days there are traffic jams in the parking lot and lines through the aisles, and according to Patch readers, it's the best grocery or convenience store in Somerville.

We took into consideration votes, comments and reviews to determine the winner.

The Somerville Avenue supermarket, as Ellen McPherson commented on the site, "is in a class by itself. I have shopped in other [Market Baskets], but Somerville Avenue remains my favorite!"

The market enjoys a somewhat legendary status in Somerville. The Boston Globe once published a column about it, titled, "Where shopping becomes a roller derby."

As Betty G, another commenter, put it: "Market Basket is the real deal … when I retire, I want to work there as a bagger! Only 22 years to go."
