Wynn Boston Harbor Mulling Name Change

The company is "actively considering" a new name in the wake of allegations against Steve Wynn.

EVERETT, MA – Wynn Boston Harbor is "actively considering" a name change following sexual misconduct allegations against former chairman and CEO Steve Wynn, a spokesperson for the company said. Wynn resigned in February after a Wall Street Journal report detailed accusations from multiple women, including a former manicurist with the company who received a $7.5 million settlement in 2005.

Wynn, 76, has pushed back against the allegations and called them the "continued work" of his ex-wife, Elaine. Elaine Wynn's attorney has denied that she was behind the Wall Street Journal story, according to WCVB.

Though Wynn is considering name change for its Everett resort and casino, a spokesperson for the company said it has not confirmed a new name, despite Las Vegas-based blog vitalvegas.com reporting over the weekend that it would be rebranded as Encore Boston Harbor.

The $2.4 billion complex is expected to open in 2019, but it's been a bumpy road for Wynn. The company faced legal action from both Boston and Somerville, and was involved in a heated public spat with Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone.

In 2016 Wynn received a pivotal Chapter 91 license from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, giving it the go-ahead to begin construction at the site. It was granted after the DEP denied Somerville's appeal of an earlier Chapter 91 license granted to Wynn.
