Wynn Boston Harbor Resort: Company Receives Building Permit from City of Everett
The permit allows for construction to begin on the $2 billion complex, pending settlement of Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone's appeal.

SOMERVILLE, MA - Wynn Resorts announced today it was granted a building permit from the City of Everett to begin construction on its Wynn Boston Harbor Resort.
The decision from the city comes two weeks after the Commonwealth approved Wynn's environmental report for the $2 billion, five-star complex.
"The people of Everett have eagerly awaited this day for years," Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria said in a press release. "This is a major milestone for Wynn and another positive step forward for Everett and beyond. As the largest economic development project in the Northeast, Wynn Boston Harbor holds unmatched potential for our city, the region and the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts."

The issuance of the permit resulted in Wynn's first $5 million payment to the city - the company will ultimately pay $30 million prior to the resort's opening.
Everett will ultimately net more than $480 million from Wynn Boston Harbor over the resort's 15-year license period, according to the release.

"It gives me enormous pleasure knowing the positive impact this $5 million and future payments will have on the City of Everett and its residents," Robert DeSalvio, president of Wynn Boston Harbor, said in the press release. "This is just the beginning of an economic rocket that will yield benefits to the city, and the region, for generations to come."
However, Wynn still faces one final hurdle before construction can begin; Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone has appealed the casino, citing potential environmental concerns for his city.
