Year-Round School in Somerville? Globe Magazine Thinks It's a Great Idea
Education startup Sprout & Co., set to open in the coming year or two at Powder House School, was named among the mag's "Best of the New."

SOMERVILLE, MA – Sure, year-round school sounds like a drag, but hear Sprout & Co. out.
Globe Magazine has, and they're intrigued, to say the least. The mag named the Somerville-based education startup among its "21 intriguing new ideas and trailblazing people" in this month's "Best of the New" series, which highlights upcoming initiatives, restaurants, shops and people in greater Boston and beyond to get excited about in the next few years.
Supported by a $10 million grant awarded by the Super School Project in September, Sprout & Co. are the brains behind Powderhouse Studios, a year-round high school expected to open at Powder House Community School in the next year or so.

But Powderhouse isn't 365 days of the Gilded Age and Shakespearean sonnets – the school will take a hands-on approach to learning, inviting students to take part in symposiums, projects and internships in their fields of interest.
Unconventional? Sure. But will it set a standard for the future of education? Globe Magazine is optimistic.
