Vigil Planned in Remembrance of Child Found Dead on Deer Island

The remains of a young child were discovered on a Deer Island beach on June 25.

Local residents are planning a candlelight vigil in honor of a young girl who was found dead on a Deer Island Beach back in June.

The group assembling the vigil is looking to raise awareness in the community with the hopes that someone will recognize and help identify “Baby Doe.”

The vigil is slated to take place on Saturday, July 25, in the very location where the child’s remains were found on the 25th of June by a woman walking her dog along the beach.

Those touched by the mysterious incident have already set up a memorial.

The child, who investigators believe was four years old, was discovered in a trash bag with polka dot leggings and a zebra-print blanket.

Baby Doe is said to be about 30 pounds and three-and-a-half feet tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.

On Monday, MassDOT displayed the girl’s image on 84 billboards across the state of Massachusetts in an effort to help police make a positive identification.
