Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield Dodging for Dollars II Kicks Off Wednesday Night!

Event includes members of Congress, the District Attorney, bets between Town Administrators, and visits from professional sport mascots!

Starting on Wednesday evening at 8:00 pm and ending on Saturday (complete schedule at the end of the article) the Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield are hosting their annual Dodging for Dollars Fundraiser at the Stoneham Club – 15 Dale Court.

It’ll be Police, Fire, a host of local businesses, civic leaders, teams from Congressman Seth Moulton’s office & Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s, all will be playing dodgeball every hour on the hour in a series of grudge matches.

“I may be new to politics, but I’m not new to dodgeball. And let me tell you, we are going to make dodgeball great again this weekend. My team and I are excited to come together with the District Attorney’s office to raise money for a great cause that provides so many opportunities for our young people," stated Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA).

“Congressman Moulton and his team may be a big deal on Capitol Hill but our team is excited to get out of the courtroom and onto the court! Ultimately this is a great opportunity to have fun and give back to an organization that does so much for hundreds of children across the county we serve,” replied District Attorney Marian Ryan.

One of the most anticipated matches is when 25 Wakefield Officials, Civic, and Business Leaders challenge 25 Stoneham Officials, Civic, and Business Leaders.

George Seibold, Stoneham Selectman, and current second overall fundraiser stated that “the Clubs are now serving over 200 kids a day. We want to make sure the next generation has all the same opportunities we did growing up, the Clubs help ensure that and more. Plus I’m looking forward to beating Team Wakefield … again.”

Kate Morgan, last year’s top fundraiser for Team Wakefield echoed those thoughts; “It is important that members of our community support the efforts of the Boys & Girls Clubs as they continue to provide dynamic services for local families. The Dodging for Dollars event is an incredibly fun way to raise money for this organization. With our new coaching staff in place I'm certain Team Wakefield is going to win.”

50 town leaders playing dodgeball has not escaped the attention of Town Administrators Stephen Maio and Thomas Younger who have made a bet using some of their community’s best features.

Town Administrator Younger is offering either some passes to Stoneham Zoo or Stoneham Theater if Team Wakefield wins, however he is confident that will not happen.

“I’ve seen how passionate our leaders are about their community and especially our Boys & Girls Clubs. I have no doubt, that will translate to a victory on the dodgeball court.”

Town Administrator Maio is offering food/certificates from one of Wakefield’s many premier restaurants and stated he would probably get dinner in Wakefield before heading to the Zoo or Theater since he expects Wakefield to win.
