Day Participates In Saving By Shaving Event

Day: "I was thrilled to participate and to be able to donate some locks to help raise funds."

A release from the office of State Representative Michael Day:

State Representatives Michael Day (D-Stoneham), Tim Whelan (R-Brewster), David Muradian (R-Grafton), Paul Tucker (D-Salem) and Joe McGonagle (D-Everett) recently took part in the annual Saving by Shaving event to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The five legislators were among hundreds of volunteers who agreed to have their heads or beards shaved to help raise money for cancer research. Other participants included Governor Charlie Baker, Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Red Sox President Sam Kennedy, and Jim Braude, host of Greater Boston and co-host of Boston Public Radio.

“Cancer has affected each and every one of us,” said Representative Day. “I was thrilled to participate and to be able to donate some locks to help raise funds that will go towards the research necessary to find a cure for this disease. I applaud Granite Telecommunications, the Hale family, Governor Baker and my colleagues for their part in this fundraiser.”

The sponsor of the event, Granite Telecommunications CEO Rob Hale, is donating $10,000 to Dana-Farber for each of the Representatives who were shaved. The fundraiser took place on March 8 at the company’s Quincy headquarters.

Since 2014, Saving by Shaving has raised $14.7 million for Dana-Farber. Combined with its other fundraising efforts, Granite Telecommunications has donated nearly $18 million to cancer research.
