Diner in the Park is Open For Business

Check out the latest "Bites Nearby" column on this restaurant in Woburn.

Overview: Diner in the Park is the newest eatery in Woburn. It’s so new that most folks don’t know about it yet. Diner in the Park serves up breakfast and lunch on weekdays in West Cummings Park off of Washington Street. Owners Jimmy and Mary Katsarikas ran Grecian Yearning in Allston which had been open since 1976 but met an unfortunate end when a fire burned down the restaurant in 2008. That wasn’t the end of the Katsarikas’ restaurant career though. A few years later, they opened up Diner in the Park and started serving their own classic breakfast selections (Jimmy calls himself “the fastest egg in town") as well as soups, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and dessert. They pride themselves on making “real food.” Freshly fried potato chips, turkey sandwiches made with fresh carved turkey, and their own homemade baklava. If you find yourself in the Cummings Park area and with an empty stomach, stop on by for a hearty meal.

Décor: You can find Diner in the Park in the #300 building in the back of West Cummings Park. It shares the same building with Bittersweet and a convenience store. Inside there are plenty of tables for dining in and you can take your meal to go. The Diner has a wonderful European Café look with oranges, yellows, reds, greens and blues.

Breakfast: Visit Diner in the Park at anytime of day (not just the mornings) to test out Jimmy’s claim of being the fastest egg in town. Egg plates include Two Eggs with anything from Kielbasa, Greek Sausage, Gyros, Corned Beef Hash, Steak Tips to Grilled Chicken. Plates come with homefries and toast. Make your own egg plate by ordering eggs any style you want and add a side of ham, bacon or sausage. Omelets include spinach & feta, mushroom & cheese, western, vegetable, hash and cheese and more. They are well-known for their egg and cheese sandwiches which are served on an english muffin or bagel. Add ham, bacon or sausage for a bit extra. They even have eggs benedict! They serve New England Coffee, as well as bottled juices to compliment your breakfast.

Lunch: For lunch, try their soup of the day. We recommend the Chicken Pasta soup if it’s available. They also have their classic Chicken-Lemon-Rice soup every day. Salads include Garden, Greek and Chef and you can add grilled chicken or tuna to the first two for an additional cost. They have delicious wraps including their Chicken Souvlaki that comes with grilled chicken chunks, lettuce, tomatoes and onions and is served with a yogurt sauce. They have a variety of burgers, hot deluxe sandwiches, club sandwiches, as well as grilled cheese with added extras like bacon, ham or tomatoes. Wraps, burgers and sandwiches come with their amazing homemade potato chips. This Woburnite had dreams about these potato chips after she ate them, they were just that delicious. They take pre-sliced potatoes and fry them up each morning. Owner Jimmy seasons the potato chips with plain salt or creates different seasoning blends for them, depending on the day.

Lunch Meals: Want dinner for lunch? Diner in the Park offers some substantial lunch plates all for under $9. Steak Tips, Turkey Dinner, Chicken Parmesan, Macaroni & Cheese, Salisbury Steak and more. You’ll come in hungry but will leave full.

Drinks: Along with their New England Coffee, Diner in the Park has a large beverage fridge with lots of bottled selections. They offer a variety of sodas and bottled waters as well as Swiss Premium lemonade, V8, Jarritos Mexican Soda, and Mistic Mango beverage.

Service: Order at the counter and they’ll bring your meal to your table. If you are dining in, your meal is served on real plates and there is a counter where you can pick up real silverware to use. Eating a tuna fish sandwich on a real plate is quite a treat. The owners and staff are super friendly.

The diner is located at 340 West Cummings Park, Woburn.
