Five Things: Stoneham to Host MLB's Pitch, Hit & Run Skills Competition

1. Take the field: The Major League Baseball (MLB) Pitch, Hit & Run skills competition comes to Stoneham 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at , according to the website. Four ages groups can compete, including 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. There are four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2012 MLB All-Star Game for those who advance, according to the website. Athletes must submit a registration/waiver form before participating in the competition. For more information, contact Program Director Vanessa Templeman at 781-438-6770.
2. Rain again? While temperatures may hit a high of nearly 70, rain is expected after 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service's forecast for Stoneham. Overcast conditions and winds of 8 to 15 miles per hour are likely during the day. In the evening, showers and thunderstorms are expected after 1 p.m., with temperatures dropping to about 58 degrees. Roughly one inch of rainfall is possible, according to the forecast.

- 3:30 p.m.: Girls' varsity tennis vs. Wakefield Memorial High School
- 3:30 p.m.: Boys' varsity track at league meet
- 3:30 p.m.: Girls' varsity track at league meet
- 4 p.m.: Boys' junior varsity lacrosse vs. Watertown High School
- 4 p.m.: Girls' junior varsity lacrosse at Watertown High School

5. Testing begins: Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) testing is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at Stoneham High School, according to the school website. Testing will take place on the second floor, and students won't have access to their lockers from 7:50 a.m. to 11 a.m. Students won't be allowed in the hallways during testing, so they'll need to remember to carry everything they need with them. Students should bring a snack for a break during testing, but they won't be able to go to the cafeteria and have to stay in the classroom or social studies hallway during break. No electronic devices or cell phones are allowed.
