With the summer winding down, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield along with Lahey Health, partnered to provide kids with the information they need to start the school year off healthy.
Over 70 children participated in interactive exhibits about Delicious Alternatives to Sugary Drinks & Power Foods for Strong Bones, both led by Mary Herbert, registered dietitian from Winchester Hospital.
“Our mission at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield is to ensure great futures. The most fundamental building block for any person to have a great future is taking care of their own health and wellness. That is why our communities need partners like Lahey Health whose own mission it is to promote health and wellness in Stoneham, Wakefield, and beyond,” said Anthony Guardia, Director of Development at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield.

“Keeping youth safe, engaged and active during the summer months is critical for good health. By sponsoring Open Parks and the Celebration of Youth Gala Lahey Health did just that. Our team worked with the Club staff to plan and implement fun interactive activities to promote healthy and active lifestyles” stated Christine Healey, Director of Community Relations, at Lahey Health.
Marylou Hardy, Regional Manager of Community Relations, echoed those thoughts and added how surprised she was by the enthusiasm the children expressed while they played different games. “We organized nutrition jeopardy and it became very intense. It was exciting to see youth discussing choices and encouraging one another to make healthful food selections.”
