Our State Is Breaking The Backs Of Working Men and Women

Taxes and pay raises thanks burdening the working class

We need taxes to fund public safety, education and keep our parks and conservation areas open. Government: local, state and federal, obtains its money from the public through fees and taxes which are ultimately paid for by the working class and consequently this over-taxation is why Massachusetts has one of the highest costs of living in America.

The working family shoulders not only their own tax burden, but the tax burden of all those in front of them in the economic cycle. When taxes are raised on apartments, landlords raise their rents. When the medical device tax was passed, Doctors were forced to raise their fees. When new taxes are levied on businesses, stores raise their prices.

The working class, however, have no one to pass on their costs on to. The buck literally stops with them. This is why your healthcare, housing and general cost of living is among the highest in the nation: over taxation by politicians who claim to be for the working class. The problem is year after year they make your life harder and more expensive while they fail to deliver on their promises.

For example, Massachusetts just collected a $1 Billion dollar tax surplus: this means they have more money than they need to fund the government. Despite this fact, many on Beacon Hill, including my opponent, advocate for new taxes even after our courts rule them unconstitutional. In this age of taking a surplus of tax dollars out of the public’s pocket, they claim schools are underfunded and there isn’t enough money to make health care more affordable.

There was enough money, however, for my opponent and his colleagues to vote themselves a 40% pay raise.
