Skylar DiCecca captures the title of 2017 Miss MA JR. High School America

Skylar DiCecca of Stoneham MA captured the title of 2017 Miss MA JR. High School America

Skylar DiCecca, 11, of Stoneham MA has captured the title of Miss Massachusetts Jr. High School which was held at St. Patrick's Parish in Stoneham, MA on October 29. As stated in the pageant handbook, ‘The Miss Junior High School, High School and Collegiate America Pageant competition exists for the purpose of providing personal and professional opportunities for young women. It is the goal to provide outstanding young ladies the opportunity to compete in a pageant system that has the highest of moral values.’

During the pageant Skylar competed in Interview, Formal Wear, and Fashion Runway. After interviewing with a panel of judges, she graced the stage with poise and confidence in a white rhinestoned chiffon gown. Skylar’s fashion runway attire was an original design Skylar created with a sequined top, glitter tulle skirt and detachable long organza skirt.

Skylar is on a competitive dance team at The Dance Academy of Stoneham, and is a 6th section black belt at Body Mind Systems. She is also an actress with The Stoneham Theatre’s ‘young company’ theatre group and can be seen in several movies filmed around New England. One of the most exciting sets she worked on was ‘Joy’ with Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. Skylar spends her free time volunteering with Helping Our Troops where she prepares care packages for our soldiers overseas. One of Skylar’s accomplishments is that she has formed her own organization, Trinkets and Treasures. Skylar makes and delivers goody bags for sick patients at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has delivered more than 200 bags to the hospital..
Skylar hosted a fundraiser last February at Kushala Sip Coffee House for the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation, as one of her sisters has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, and raised $750 in one day. Skylar says, ‘I knew there were things I could do, even at my age, to make the world a better place and help others. I saved a life from a medical emergency once and realized life is a gift. You have to make the most out of every single day.’

Miss Jr. High School America encourages girls to spread awareness of bullying through their platform B.R.A.V.E. (Building Respect And Values for Everyone). B.R.A.V.E’s mission is to reduce the effects of bullying and bring awareness of bullying in schools and communities. Skylar has been an active supporter of the about-bullying organization, The Brand UR for several years. In 2014 Skylar performed in The Brand UR’s anti bullying music Video, ‘I like big bows’ with Dance Mom’s star, Jojo Siwa. Through the pageants platform of B.R.A.V.E., Skylar plans on working with local Girl Scout Troops, her dance school, her karate studio and at all events and appearances she makes.

Skylar will be attending the national competition in Little Rock, AK in June 2017 as she competes for the title of Miss Jr. High School America.
