Tulip Asian Cuisine Plans to Serve Alcohol at Proposed Outdoor Patio

Tulip Asian Cuisine recently postponed a public hearing to discuss their plans to serve alcohol at a proposed outdoor patio.

At the Stoneham Liquor License Authority's meeting on July 24, Chris Coleman, a Reading attorney representing the Stoneham-based Asian restaurant located at 119 Main St. at Redstone Shopping Center, asked the board to continue the hearing until their next available session.

"What was put in our plan and what was actually in the plan now does not match up," Coleman said. "We'd brought in a revised plan and the police department and building inspector had an opportunity to weigh in on that...and they had some comments or concerns. Seeing that really for the first time in writing, I'd like to actually be able to address those concerns with everybody together."

The Liquor License Authority unanimously granted the continuation of the hearing until the board's next session on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.

The initial proposal called for an approximately 500-square-foot outdoor patio area with 22 seats, which would bring the total number of seats available at the restaurant to 218. The 82,000-square-foot restaurant currently features a 32-seat lounge, an eight-seat sushi bar, an 80-seat dining room and a 76-seat Teppanyaki grill room.

The patio section would be surrounded by a fence, and there would also be a gated emergency exit on site.

, licensure for serving alcohol at the property was conditionally approved by the Stoneham Board of Selectmen, with the stipulation being that all employees of the restaurant must complete Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS), a state training program focused on the service of alcohol in restaurants and other commercial establishments.
