Unemployment Rate Falls in Stoneham, Massachusetts

A look at unemployment rates in Greater Boston.

More Stoneham residents had jobs in March as compared to January, according to the latest statistics from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

In January, Stoneham's unemployment rate was at 6.5 percent, but the town has seen a steady decline recently, according to the latest statistics. In February, the unemployment rate dipped to 6.1 percent before falling nearly one percent to 5.2 percent in March, the stats show.

In Stoneham, the rate dropped to 5.2 percent, remaining 1.2 percent below the state average. The story is mixed in neighboring communities, from Cambridge at nearly full employment (3.3 percent), to above average unemployment to the north in Revere (7.5 percent) and Chelsea (8.7 percent).

The state's unemployment rate dropped to 6.4 percent in March, down significantly from the 7.5 percent mark posted in February, according to numbers released by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
