Enes Kanter, A Principal On The Roof: 2019's Heartwarming Moments

As 2019 draws to a close, we wanted to reflect on some of the happier and more heartwarming moments that happened in Patches south of Boston this year. We found several fun stories including Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter visiting Stoughton High School, a principal that spent a day on the roof and several heartwarming fundraisers.

Celtics Enes Kanter Visits Stoughton Students

Boston Celtics Center flew back to Boston Tuesday night after the team's preseason win against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he didn't let it stop him from coming out to Stoughton the next day to pay the students at O'Donnell Middle School a visit. Kanter talked to the students about the importance of standing up for human rights and also spent some time answering questions. Read more here.

Christmas Baby Born In Barnstable Ambulance

The Barnstable Fire Department delivered one family the greatest Christmas gift of all — a newborn daughter. Just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, police and fire officials were called to the Village Green Apartments at Independence Drive because a woman was in labor. Read more here.

A Bird's Eye View: Stoughton Principal Puts Office On The Roof

When Dawe Elementary School Principal Robert Cancellieri was still a kid attending Hansen Elementary, his principal Edward Quigley would sometimes dress up as Mickey Mouse. Cancellieri said it was something he would remember for the rest of his life. And now, he's making similar memories for his own students.

Cancellieri moved his office to the roof and spent the day up there after the students exceeded their fundraising goal for the PTO by 113 percent. Read more here.

Foxboro Woman Gets New Car From Kraft And Community After Fire

A Foxborough woman who lost her car in a fire got a new set of wheels thanks to the generosity of the community and the Kraft family's nonprofit arm. Last month, Wendy Powell's car caught fire in the parking lot of a local TD bank. Her insurance would only cover a fraction of the cost to replace the vehicle. Read more here.

Medfield Girl Honored By DA's Office For Bravery And Leadership

A Medfield student was honored by the Norfolk County District Attorney's office for having the bravery to succeed with less than fortunate circumstances. Medfield High School senior Marianna Apazidis was this year's recipient of the "Sam Berns Courage in Leadership Award."

The award is named after Sam Berns, a Foxborough boy who lived with Progeria, a rare genetic disorder and continued to have a positive outlook. Read more here.

50-Pound Sea Turtle With Hypothermia Rescued On Cape Beach

Barnstable Natural Resources officials rescued a cold-stunned loggerhead sea turtle that was suffering from hypothermia. Town officials found the 50-to-60-pound turtle stranded at Harris Meadow. Read more here.
