SUDBURY, MA — Multiple projects in Sudbury are included in the Massachusetts Senate's newly passed economic development bond bill, including funding for the Mass Central Rail Trail and the replacement of a bridge connecting the town to Stow.
The Senate late Thursday approved legislation that secured $5 million in local earmarks across the Middlesex and Worcester districts, State Sen. Jamie Eldridge announced on Friday.
Among the funding, $1.5 million will go toward the construction of the Mass Central Rail Trail through Sudbury and Wayland and $1 million for the replacement of the Sudbury Road Bridge in neighboring Stow, which provides a key connection to Sudbury.
The economic development legislation is a bond bill, meaning the funding must still be released by the Healey administration before it can be spent.
"I am grateful to the constituents, municipal officials and transit advocates for their suggestions on these key infrastructure investments," Sen. Eldridge said in the announcement.
The $1.5 million earmark would support continued construction of the Mass Central Rail Trail, a multi-use path that will connect communities across Central and Eastern Massachusetts. The project has long been a priority for local officials and trail advocates as work continues to expand the trail through the region.
The $1 million earmark for the Sudbury Road Bridge would support the design and construction of the bridge in Stow, which serves residents traveling between the two communities.
Sen. Eldridge also secured $1 million for water infrastructure improvements in Maynard and $1.5 million for Mass Central Rail Trail construction in Hudson.
The Senate's economic development bill authorizes hundreds of millions of dollars in investments for infrastructure and economic development projects across Massachusetts. Before any of the local earmarks receive funding, the legislation must be signed into law and the Healey administration must release the bond funds.
