Angaje Haitian Dance Performance

The French Department and METCO program at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School present "Angaje". The powerful dance performance, produced by Jean Appolon Expressions, is inspired by the struggle against homophobia and the power of Haitian cultural tradition in the fight for justice. By bringing “Angaje” to the LS community, we are also educating our communities about Haiti's current issues and traditions. One of Jean Appolon Expressions’ (JAE) goal is to promote Haitian culture, tradition and to raise awareness of current issues in Haiti by conducting dance performances in the Boston area. JAE has performed at many schools and colleges, including Harvard University, Lesley College and American University. Their production, “Angaje”, first successfully premiered at the BCA’s Plaza Theater with two sold-out performances in March 2015. “Angaje” also describes the protest music and Vodoo rhythms lying at the heart of Haitian culture and traditions. The title itself means "committed" in Haitian Creole, ultimately reflecting the commitment and political engagement demonstrated by JAE. People who attend the event will be encouraged to a voluntary donation to benefit “Partners in Health," a global health organization, providing health services to benefit thousands of people in need of health care around the world.
