The Birdhouse Project for Protect Sudbury

The Sudbury Art Association is holding a birdhouse auction and community event to raise money and funds for Protect Sudbury during April!

Protect Sudbury is trying to bring awareness of the Eversource power line installation to the attention of the entire Sudbury community. Abutters are very familiar with this project, Those who live in Sudbury further away from the project may not have even heard about it. Renata Alyward approached the Sudbury Art Association for an art project to help raise awareness of the power line project in Sudbury.

The Sudbury Art Association (SAA) listened to Protect Sudbury’s presentation at a meeting of Sudbury’s non-profits. Bethany Shaw and Christine Faucher came up with the idea to use birdhouses as the community activism vehicle. The SAA decided to use art to raise community awareness of Protect Sudbury.

The SAA did a call for Artists and had a very good response. A few local residents stepped up to the Birdhouse Challenge as well. In total there are now close to forty birdhouses in our auction as well as local bird and nature photography and some additional bird-themed items.

Part of the "get the word out" strategy is to ask local businesses to host birdhouses for the month of April, the duration of our online auction. There are now thirty-five local Sudbury businesses hosting the birdhouses. The hope is that as folks in the community travel about Sudbury doing their errands, they will notice the birdhouses and become more aware of Protect Sudbury. Check out the auction site, and bid on the birdhouses and other items they find there. All proceeds from this auction will go to Protect Sudbury.

There is a map of all birdhouse locations on the auction site. Birdhouses can be viewed in person before bidding. There is a treasure hunt element to increase the fun and to help bring art to the community. Download the checklist and map to see how many you can find!
