In Enthusiastic Support of Silvia Nerssessian, School Committee

Silvia Nerssessian excels at short and long term planning and will move the district forward to meet our shared strategic goals.

When someone runs for SPS School Committee who has an accomplished history of driving positive change as chair on another school committee, we take note - particularly when that professional has a background in finance and was able to pull her previous educational institution out of dire financial straits. Silvia Nerssessian is this candidate. She served on the school board of the Atrium School in Watertown for eight years. Her tenure on the board saw many successes including a sustainable budget model which was made possible through transparency and collaboration. Our school district is facing many challenges including budget concerns and multiple open administrative positions. Now more than ever, we need strong leadership with vision and fiscal responsibility on the school committee. Nerssessian stands out as a voice of experience who can hit the ground running.

To be successful on a school committee, a candidate must meet many qualifications. Primary among them is an ability to listen and understand the viewpoints of diverse stakeholders and make sound financial decisions that show a strong commitment to our students and respect for the taxpayers. Silvia Nerssessian excels at short and long term planning and will move the district forward to meet our shared strategic goals. She is a familiar face at school committee and board of selectmen meetings. She meets regularly with town officials to lend her guidance and support. She is known and respected which gives her the strong standing a committee member needs to build consensus.

In a year that presents more risk due to the turnover in our school district and the need for a thoughtful budget, we are lucky to have this exceptional candidate with the vision, experience and background to help guide our school district. I hope you will join me in voting for Silvia Nerssessian on March 26.
