Former Congressman Joe Kennedy II Endorses Joe Kearns Goodwin

Six-term Congressman and Waltham’s former voice in the U.S. House, Joe Kennedy II has endorsed Joe Kearns Goodwin for State Senate in Massachusetts' Third Middlesex District. Citing Goodwin’s work with General Electric’s clean energy division and experience as an Army platoon leader in Iraq and Strategic Advisor to NATO forces in Afghanistan, Kennedy said Goodwin is the best candidate running for state Senate in the Third Middlesex District.

Kennedy said, "Joe Kearns Goodwin has honorably served his country and his community.  I’ve known him all his life and admire his passion for public service and helping others.  He’ll make a great state Senator. "

Joe Kennedy II served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1999 and is the founder of Citizens Energy, a non-profit organization that provides low-income individuals with access to affordable home heating. Kennedy joins a growing list of prominent Democrats to endorsed Goodwin for State Senate, including U.S. Senator John Kerry.
 
Goodwin, 34, is a native of Concord and decorated U.S. Army veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on 9/11, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent more than a year leading a platoon of 30 soldiers patrolling the streets of Baghdad, rebuilding the country’s infrastructure and working to contain growing violence. For his exemplary performance in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Later, he served in Afghanistan where he spent a year serving as a special advisor to the NATO Director of Strategic Communications. He attended both Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
