SUDBURY, MA — Thursday was the last day on the job for Henry Hayes, who was hired as Sudbury's town manager in April 2020.

The former Hanscom Air Force Base commander announced his resignation on June 10 in a joint statement with Select Board Chair Charlie Russo. The statement did not include a specific reason for Hayes' departure, which comes about a year before his contract was set to expire in March 2023.

“My family and I have contemplated the importance of being near those we love and have examined several options and opportunities. The decision does not come lightly. I have developed in so many ways since being here, and the people are truly great to work with," Hayes resignation statement said.

Meanwhile, Sudbury has taken several steps toward replacing Hayes.

On Tuesday, the Sudbury Select Board voted to make Assistant Town Manager Maryanne Bilodeau the interim town manager. This will be Bilodeau's third turn as the interim town manager: she served in the role after Maureen Valente left for a state job in 2015, and after Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues resigned in 2019 to become North Andover's town manager.
