Homeowner Tackles Suspected Robber Fleeing the Home

A man came back to find a person in his home, and the lights on. The suspect is tied to another burglary, and car breaks.

A suspected thief is facing charges after a homeowner tackled him and held him down until police could arrive.

Westborough police were called to 10 State St. Saturday around 7:35 p.m.for a reported breaking and entering in progress. Sgt. Chester Hallice III arrived first to find that one man was being held on the ground by two others

The suspect on the ground was taken into custody.

He was identified as George Carreau, 32, of 54½ Hazzel St. Fitchburg. He is a recent resident at 1 Lincoln St., Apt. 3, Westborough.

The homeowner said that he got home to find a woman sitting across the street, and the lights on in his home. He went to the back of the house, finding Carreau trying to run to the front door, where a relative confronted him. The two held Carreau down until police arrived.

Police also took a report that the victim on Friday night had been broken into, but had not reported it yet. During that break-in, two laptops and a large amount of cash was taken. During Saturday’s break, two more laptops were taken.

The investigation led police to 1 Lincoln St., where four laptops were recovered. Carreau has also been linked to two car breaks that had occurred during the week. The investigation is continuing and additional charges will be sought against Carreau and a female accomplice.

Carreau is currently being charged with 2 counts of unarmed burglary. He is being held at the Westborough Police Department on $1,000 cash bail for his appearance in WDC on Tuesday.
