LETTER: Dentist Office Finds Mandible With Teeth in Earth Day Cleanup

Our office went out this morning [April 23] to participate in the annual roadside cleanup. We picked up trash along Union Street over by the Fieldhouse. We chose to park and meet at the Fieldhouse because the parking lot is so big.

Well, by the time we walked from the parking lot to Union Street, we had already filled most of our bags with trash--LOTS of discarded alcohol bottles, cigarettes, and junk food containers/wrappers. We figured that maybe some underage drinking goes on along this little stretch—it's tucked back and off the beaten path. One interesting find for us was a critter mandible with teeth (since we are a dental office we found this very exciting!)

It's terrible and sad how many cigarette butts we found on Union Street, as well. I would not be shy to say upwards of 500, and we only covered about 1/2 mile of road, a mile if you count both sides of the street. Unbelievable. It was the same story last year, when we were over closer to the town hall area--smokers need to stop littering!
