Mosquito Spraying Scheduled In Sudbury This Month

Local health officials are working to control mosquito populations.

SUDBURY, MA — Mosquito spraying is scheduled in parts of Sudbury next week as local officials work to control mosquito populations.

The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project plans to use a truck-mounted aerosol sprayer between sunset and 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Jun. 15 and Tuesday, Jun. 16, according to the Sudbury Health Department. If spraying is postponed, it will be rescheduled for the following week.

On Jun. 15, spraying is scheduled for areas near Country Village Lane, Austin Road, Barton Drive, Oakwood Avenue, Reeves Street, Pratt’s Mill Road and Evergreen Road.

The product being used is Zenivex E4, which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency classifies as a reduced-risk pesticide. The mosquito control project said the product will be applied at 1 ounce per acre and does not pose a significant risk to people or pets because of its low toxicity and the small amount used.

Residents should still minimize exposure. Anyone who sees a spray truck approaching should go indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates and close windows, according to the department.

Beekeepers do not need to take special precautions because spraying begins after sunset, according to the mosquito control project. Zenivex E4 also biodegrades quickly and does not build up in the environment.
