With courts damaged beyond repair and fencing destroyed by the brutal winter, the Park and Recreation Commission has decided to close down Featherland Tennis Courts until further notice.
According to an announcement on the town’s site, there are no funds available to replace the fencing at this time.
“The Commission will be considering whether to replace some or all of the courts at Featherland during the next capital funding cycle at a cost of approximately $25,000 per court,” said the post. “Until such time, the courts may be used for overflow parking, as this won’t create any additional damage as they need to be rebuilt from the ground up.”

The Rec. Commission suggested tennis players use the courts at the high school or Feeley field off of Raymond Road in the meantime.
DPW Director Bill Place said that the trees surrounding the court were diseased and taken down by the Tree Department, and that fences were removed as a result of damage. Some fencing was removed because the posts and chain links were corroded.
