Those who were familiar with Mikhail Young may have predicted a deadly outcome.

Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix said the department was “very familiar” with the man, and documents paint a history of violence, alcohol abuse, mental illness and threats, particularly to his parents.

Young, 24, is facing double homicide charges, with investigators saying he stabbed both of his parents to death while on vacation, fled the scene, and returned to his home in Sudbury.

One document, reported the Boston Globe, shows that Young at age 21 was staying at a local hotel for months at the insistence of his mother, who was scared for the family’s safety. He got arrested at the hotel for urinating on a wall and exposing himself to an employee.

Young reportedly threatened to kill his parents in 2008 and 2011.

In August 2011, Sudbury Police were called to a disturbance on Goodman’s Hill Road to investigate a complaint. During the investigation, Young became combative with the officers. While officers tried to apprehend Young, two were kicked. In the cruiser, officers used pepper spray on Young.

The incident was one among many. He was arrested in 2010, charged with domestic assault and battery, The Boston Globe reported. He was also on probation for charges of indecent exposure, and his parents had taken out a restraining order on him in the past, according toCBS News. He was known to police beyond just these incidents and also had a history of mental illness, as reported by media outlets including the Boston Herald.

Young now faces charges of murdering his parents. He’s accused of stabbing 73-year-old Kenneth Young and 67-year-old wife Jane Young, 66, to death at their vacation rental in the Caribbean on May 3, 2015, and then fleeing back to the United States to escape prosecution.

On Tuesday, Judge David Cunis ordered Young to be held without bail after he was arraigned on murder charges in Framingham District Court on a charge of Fugitive from Justice on a Court Warrant. This charge stems from the arrest warrant issued out of the Superior Court of the U.S. Virgin Islands Division of St. Thomas and St. John for the murder of his parents, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
