Massachusetts Storm Update: Weather Forecast, Electricity Information, Deaths Reported

Two more storms for the Boston area are potentially around the corner, even as parts of the state still recover from Friday's snow.

BOSTON, MA - The weather forecast for the Boston area of Massachusetts is calling for two more potential storms early next week, even as tens of thousands of people across the state remain without power thanks to Friday’s snow. Here’s where things stand, and where they might be headed.

What’s happening now:

A number of downed trees and power lines covered in wet, heavy snow contributed to power outages that continued into Saturday, especially for those in towns to the west and the south of Boston. Some 40,000 people were without power Saturday afternoon, according to Eversource and National Grid‘s websites.

Eversource was working into the night to get power back across the state.

In Canton, police urged residents to stay inside to avoid falling branches after a 6-year-old was pinned under one Friday and later died. (A GoFundMe was started to assist the girl’s family.) Late Friday night, a 48-year-old was also struck by a falling tree limb in Canton. He died Saturday.

What’s to come:

Forecasters are cautioning that the wobbly system coming in is making forecasting difficult. As of now, though, expect 1-3 inches Monday and about the same on Tuesday.

Here’s what’s more certain: Temperatures will drop below freezing, with overnight temperatures in the 20s until they bottom out at 1 whole degree next Saturday, Feb. 13.

Look for just enough warmth to melt the snow Wednesday afternoon -- and then cold enough temperatures to freeze everything, The Weather Channel said.

That warm winter weather that had lingered over the past week is gone, and cold air is going to be moving in quickly. Sunday might see temperatures in the mid-40s, but that’s the last time we could see anything over 40 for a while. Temperatures after that? Below freezing for about the next week or so.
