SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury residents will get a glimpse of the town's newest park facility at an open house in November. The town will open the former Camp Sewataro parcel to the public on Nov. 16.

The 44-acre Sewataro property was acquired for $11 million after an affirmative vote in June. The choice was close, however, with 2,561 in favor and 2,195 opposed. Since then, the town has hired a management company to oversee the property and run the camp. The town expects the property to generate about $345,000 in revenue each year.

During the upcoming open house, residents will be able to take tours and use some facilities, like the fishing pond and basketball courts. But the camp won't be fully open to the public until some safety upgrades are complete.

"Soon, after the new operator adds signage, and makes the property safe and secure for public access, residents will be able to explore and enjoy for themselves," Selectman Bill Schineller wrote in the board's fall newsletter.

The town has also hired a Sewataro community liaison. Kristen Drummey, a Sewataro counselor, will create programs at the camp and arrange access for the public. Sewataro will still be used as a summer camp from June 1 to Aug. 31, but it will also be available during non-camp season.
