Sudbury PD To Receive 9-1-1 Cellphone Calls Directly
Cellphone calls will be patched directly into the Sudbury Police station instead of going through state police.
SUDBURY, MA- Emergency call are now directly patched in to the Sudbury police and fire dispatchers. Before, calls were sent to the state police and transferred to Sudbury dispatchers. The department made the move to save valuable time during emergency calls so that callers didn't have to wait or repeat the situation.
Before 2012 the Sudbury fire and police departments had two separate dispatchers, so depending on the nature of the call, calls would be transferred twice to get to the right location. This meant that some people had to reiterate the situation first to a state police dispatcher, then to a police dispatcher and if it was a fire case, a third time to a fire dispatcher.
In the fall of 2012 the department combined the fire and police dispatch, making the process more efficient, but that wasn't enough. As of March 7, 2019, all cell phone calls started going directly to Sudbury dispatch. "We feel this is a more beneficial platform for all who may need the services of Public Safety," the department said in a Facebook post.
