SUDBURY, MA — The Subdury Select Board will hold the annual tax classification hearing Tuesday — in other words, they're going to decide how much you pay in property taxes next year.

Residents will get to give their opinion about the proposed town tax rate, which raise enough money from property owners to pay for the $109 million Sudbury budget set by Town Meeting in April.

Sudbury has in the past chosen to split the town tax rate between residential and commercial/industrial (CIP) properties. That practice shifts the tax levy burden away from residential property owners and toward business property owners. The town rates in 2022 were set at $18.05 per $1,000 of value for residential and $24.57 for CIP.

Although it's possible Sudbury's tax rate might go down for 2023, tax bills might still go up. Rising property values — which are being seen broadly across Massachusetts communities — tend to erode any savings from a lower rate.

Sudbury's classification hearing was previously scheduled for Nov. 29, but was held until Tuesday's meeting.
