SUDBURY, MA — The annual Sudbury Race Amity Day will be observed on Sunday, but with alterations this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Here's more from a Sudbury Race Amity Day press release:

Sudbury Race Amity Day will be celebrated Sunday, June 14, with a food drive to benefit the

The food pantry drive is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Peter Noyes School parking lot behind
Town Hall. It will be a drive-through, no-contact event, and people are asked to wear masks. People will sort their donations into the 13 donation boxes, one person at a time to maintain social distancing.

A list of the food pantry’s most-needed items is on the events page of the Race Amity Day website, www.sudburyraceamity.org. The Sudbury Community Food Pantry in 2019 served families in 76 cities and towns in MetroWest and beyond; for more information, see www.sudburyfoodpantry.org.

"In this time of COVID-19, we are unable to celebrate Race Amity Day with the kind of
gathering we have held in the past,” said Susan Berry, member of the Sudbury Race Amity Task
Force. “There is growing evidence of the disproportionate degree the pandemic is affecting people of color and the most vulnerable among us. As a group promoting amity (friendship) across difference, the task force decided to celebrate Race Amity Day this year with a day of service by sponsoring the food pantry drive.”

Everyone is invited to participate in a virtual “Gathering of Friends” Sunday afternoon, June 14, starting at 3:45 p.m., to watch the National Center for Race Amity's annual Race Amity Day celebration. A registration link is on the Sudbury Race Amity Day website. Judy Merra, Jr. has been invited to speak at the national event on behalf of Sudbury Race Amity Day.

The Sudbury Race Amity Day Task Force was formed in 2018 by Dr. William H."Smitty" Smith to establish an annual Race Amity Day celebration in Sudbury. Smith is a Sudbury resident, former principal of Ephraim Curtis Middle School, and the founding executive director of the National Center for Race Amity.
