Sudbury Resident Michele Gay Discusses School Safety Initiatives

Safe and Sound co-founder, Michele Gay, speaks about school safety initiatives.

Spreading awareness about the need for improved school safety is an ongoing effort for Sudbury resident, Michele Gay. Gay, who relocated from Sandy Hook, Connecticut to Sudbury, Massachusetts, co-founded Safe and Sound with Alissa Parker. The non-profit organization was founded in honor of their daughters, who lost their lives during the Sandy Hook tragedy along with 19 other children and six teachers. Gay honors her daughter’s memory by speaking across the country and sharing her inspiring story and message of hope and empowerment.

Gay recently spoke at The Middlesex Partnership For Youth’s nineteenth annual School Safety Summit, where she shared Safe and Sound’s current initiatives. “We created Safe and Sound and the website for the purpose of gathering and sharing school safety resources for school communities across the country,” she said. “The response has been incredible.”

Gay’s goal is to continue building Safe and Sound as national resource for school communities, where all school community members can work together with resources and tools from Safe and Sound’s subject matter experts and other experts from across the country. “We want to see parents, teachers, students, emergency responders, and mental health folks working together,” she said. “We believe community collaboration is the best way to improve the safety of our schools.”
